A new milestone was achieved in mobile telephony where Orange and Samsung joined forces to release the World’s First Welsh Language handset.
Now Welsh speakers will have more choices as a part of Orange’s commitment and also Orange wants to ensure that customers choose Orange as their phone network. However with around 750,000 Welsh speakers out there it is pretty decent market to conquer but not to forget that Orange has some of the best coverage in the Valleys.
The mobile which will be offered by Samsung is the Samsung S5600. It is a low cost 3 megapixel camera phone with touchscreen handset, with 2.8 inch screen and HSDPA connectivity. It also features FM radio which just right to listen to Radio Cymru and 80MB of storage on board with expandable option via MicroSD.
Your head will spin looking at the special Welsh edition which contains over 44,000 Welsh words bringing the miracle of predictive text to the language for the first time ever. The handset will be available on PAYG and pay monthly contracts from September.
Price ranges from free, if you opt for the 24 month, £19.57 per month contract or you can also buy it outright for £129.
Samsung had launched an Irish phone 2008 and we have also heard that it was planning a Gaelic version but it again kept on picking on the English ones and made calls only at the off peak times.
